Glenn’s Café Bartender

Bartender
Glenn’s Café
From sometime around 1939, a small gas station diner on the side of what was then Highway 40
(today’s Business Loop) held the name Glenn’s Café. Originally opened by Glenn Purdy and his wife,
Tilley, it enjoyed a 40+ year run at that location. Starting as little more than a diner, it eventually graduated to more substantial offerings. For generations, Glenn’s café, with its iconic sign, became a favorite stop for weary traveler and local families alike.

In 1988, the café and its sign were brought to downtown Columbia at 9th and Cherry. There, the café gained a heavy dose of New Orleans influence. In 2002, Glenn’s closed its doors, leaving many to wonder if they had seen the last of it. After a brief stint from 2006 to 2013 at Hotel Frederick in Boonville,
MO, Glenn’s Café moved back to downtown Columbia, bringing along its beloved original sign.

Glenn’s Café is now joined with The Tiger Hotel, the only 4 diamond hotel in Columbia. Built in 1928 by
Simon Construction Company, The Tiger Hotel was the most lavish hotel in Columbia, with modern amenities seen nowhere else. Designed by Alonzo Gentry, a member of the Statler Hotel architectural team, it was the first skyscraper between Kansas City and St. Louis. The Tiger sign on the roof became and is to this day one of the most notable landmarks in Columbia. In 1979, The Tiger Hotel was nominated for the National Registry of Historic Places and was named one of the top ten most notable places in Boone County in 2000.

  • What is the WOTC (Work Opportunity Tax Credit)?

WOTC (Work Opportunity Tax Credit) is a federal tax credit available to business employers, both large and small. The credits are designed to offset Federal income tax liabilities. When the WOTC program is executed the right way, employers can capture enough tax credits to significantly reduce, or even eliminate, their Federal income tax liabilities. (And if your business was formed using a flow-through-entity, like a S-corp or LLC, then the credits could flow-through to the owner’s K-1).

  • How can WOTC impact my business?

Executing the WOTC program is simple and easy with the right provider. We’ll screen your applicants to determine if they satisfy one of nine qualifying criteria. If so, our team of tax credit experts work with specific government agencies, behind the scenes, to capture the tax credits for you. Once captured, tax credits can be used to eliminate Federal income tax liabilities and thus improve cash flow for stakeholders and the business.
