Assistant to the Director of Housekeeping

POSITION SUMMARY
To supervise, direct and assure the completion of housekeeping tasks in the guest rooms, corridors, and public space and back of the house areas to achieve and maintain the property’s standard of cleanliness.
 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist in the hiring, training and completing of reviews for all housekeeping associates.
Visually inspect suites, guest rooms, linen closets, public spaces and corridors for cleanliness and appearance.  Update room status upon completion of inspection. Complete written inspection in accordance to company policy.  
Train and monitor performance of Room Attendants and the Houseperson staff.  Exercise good judgment, as well as provide organization, instruction, guidance, communication and counseling.  Assign staff to their designated work areas and ensure that jobs are completed within the shift.  
Take requested inventories of furniture, fixtures, linen, equipment and supplies.  Ensure that both the carts and linen/supply closets are kept clean, neat and stocked according to departmental guidelines.
Order and keep guest supplies stocked
Complete work orders and submit maintenance deficiencies in guest rooms, corridors and public space areas through Quick Connect.
Expedite special guest requests, such as extra towels, blankets or pillows.
 
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions.
Assist room attendants and houseperson in securing supplies and tools necessary for the completion of their jobs as the need arises.
Report suspicious persons or actions, hazardous conditions, etc, to a supervisor immediately.
Greet guest in hallways or when passing by.  Respond to guest questions.  Provide guest assistance, directions and information as requested.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor such as cleaning rooms, assisting Room Attendants or cross training when necessary.
 
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Ability to push or pull equipment weighing up to 150 pounds.  
Ability to be on your feet and walking about 5,000 to 18,000 steps per day
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing an average of 25-50 pounds.
Ability to scrub and scour surfaces, extending arms over head to perform cleaning tasks, and work in confined spaces.
Ability to communicate effectively with other associates, as well as guests.
Ability to provide clear direction, instruction and guidance to subordinates.
Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Ability to make sound business decisions and demonstrate good judgment.  Ability to effectively supervise subordinates.
Basic ability to comprehend English language sufficient to understand information such as labels and instructions and basic guest requests.
 
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum three years management experience with at least two years in housekeeping management at progressively higher levels of responsibility.
