Security / Bouncer – Southport Betty’s

Job Summary

As a Security / Bouncer at Southport Betty’s, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable atmosphere for our guests and team members. You will be positioned at the forefront of our service environment, helping enforce entry policies, monitor crowd behavior, and support a positive guest experience in this busy sports bar and restaurant in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. 

This position is essential to creating a secure environment that matches Southport Betty’s energetic bar, dining, and entertainment experience.

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet guests at entrances in a friendly and professional manner

• Verify age and check IDs to ensure compliance with state and local alcohol service regulations

• Monitor guest behavior and intervene as necessary to prevent disturbances or unsafe situations

• Escort unruly or disruptive guests off the premises when needed, following appropriate protocols

• Conduct regular checks of the interior and exterior areas to ensure safety and security

• Coordinate with bartenders, servers, and management to maintain a smooth flow of service during peak periods

• Assist with crowd control during busy nights, events, and weekends

• Respond to guest concerns with professionalism and calm demeanor

• Document incidents accurately and report them to management as required

• Enforce Southport Betty’s policies on safety, conduct, and occupancy limits

Required Competencies

• Previous experience in security, bouncer, crowd management, or bar/restaurant security preferred

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle confrontational situations professionally

• Good observational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Acceptable physical fitness to stand for long periods and respond quickly when needed

• Knowledge of basic conflict-resolution techniques

Required Education & Certifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older

• Valid government-issued photo ID

• Must have any required local or state security permitting/licensing as required by Chicago and Illinois regulations

• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly

Work Environment

This position operates in a lively bar and restaurant atmosphere that may include loud music, crowded areas, and fast-paced service. You will routinely interact with guests, team members, and vendors. Services may extend into late evening and early morning hours, especially on weekends. 

Physical Demands

• Stand for extended periods during shifts

• Walk, bend, reach, and respond quickly to situations

• Must be able to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds when assisting with guest or safety needs

• Must work in indoor and outdoor environments that may be crowded, loud, or busy
